National History Day (NHD) is a non-profit education organization based in College Park, Maryland. NHD offers year-long academic programs that engage over half a million middle- and high-school students around the world annually in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. Since 1974, NHD has continuously improved history education by providing professional development opportunities and curriculum materials for educators. The largest NHD program is the National History Day Contest that encourages more than half a million students around the world to conduct historical research on a topic of their choice. Students enter these projects at the local and affiliate levels, with top students advancing to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park.

The 2018-2019 academic year theme is Triumph & Tragedy in History.  For more information, click here.

Welcome to the regional National History Day contest, held at Northwest Missouri State University.  We are excited to have you participate in NHD and to join us at NWMSU for the contest.  It will be a fun day where you get to present the hard work you have done on your projects.  Your teacher will provide you with more details, but for now, know that you will arrive at the NWMSU campus between 8:00-8:45am, judging will be 9:00-12:00 (your teacher will have the schedule and your exact time), lunch is 12-1, and the awards ceremony will be at 1pm.

Remember that if you are completing a paper or website, those must be submitted early for judging.  Ask your teacher for more information about this.

Lunch:

For lunch, you are welcome to visit the Bearcat Commons (lower level of the Student Union) where there are several options for a tasty meal.  This location offers a Mediterranean kitchen with pizza and pasta dishes, a sandwich deli and salad bar, an all-American grill, Tex Mex cuisine, and a dessert selection. On the main level of the Union is the Jones which has a Chick-fil-A, Einstein Brothers Bagels, and Japanese-inspired Zen. $10 should be plenty for you to get enough to eat.  You also can bring your own lunch instead.  You can eat downstairs in the Union, or you can bring food back up to a designated room on the 3rd floor of the Union.
